JUDICIAL SCANDAL; LITIGANTS PREFER FETISH SHRINES TO LAW COURTS

Fetish business is likely to boom as some litigants are considering sending their cases to fetish priests for adjudication following the recent judicial corruption expose by the investigative journalist Anas Arimeyaw.

In his latest expose on corruption in the judiciary, the investigative journalist Anas Arimeyaw captured on camera 34 judges allegedly taking bribes to throw away cases.

The scandal according to some litigants in the Volta region has dwindled their confidence in the country’s judicial system. To this end some are considering sending their cases to shrines for redress.

Kofi Boateng one the litigants spoke to citinews.

“For me I don’t see any reason why I should appear again before any judge in this country. I would have prefer to go to Nogokpo, Atsiavi or any of our fetish places because there if you don’t say the truth, you lose your life” he said.

He is however suggesting election of members of the bench as a solution to avert future occurrence of the scandal.

“If there should anything that would resurrect trust in the judiciary then we have to come out with a new method of appointing judges. I would want to suggest that judges and magistrates be elected to operate for a certain period of time after which they would have to present themselves again to be elected” he added.
