As activities of Fulani herdsmen in the Adaklu District of
the Volta region affect agriculture in the area, the district recently rolled
out measures to control the situation.
Speaking to citinews the district chief executive of Adaklu
District Assembly Emmanuel sky Ganaku said his outfit has decided to nip the
situation in the bud. He noticed that landlords that give lands to farmers in
area also allocate portions of the same piece of land to the Fulani herdsmen for
grazing. This he said this has become chaotic to the farming community
especially when the herdsmen take their cattle to graze on farms destroying the
farms and therefore reducing agriculture production.
Hon Emmanuel Sky Ganaku said they
have begun educating landlords to desist from the practise while the Fulani
herdsmen are being allocated grazing fields where they can feed their animals. Hon Emmanuel Sky Ganaku said they have
registered most of the Fulani herdsmen including their cattle making it easier
for the district to control and monitor their activities.
The chief executive disclosed this at the 5th
meeting of the first assembly of Adaklu District Assembly held yesterday in the
assembly hall at Adaklu Waya.
