A TOGOLESE DROWNED IN THE WAWA RIVER AFTER SMUGGLING GHANA'S COCOA TO TOGO


A leader of a group that allegedly smuggled cocoa from Ghana to Togo feared dead in the Wawa River a boundary between Togo and Ghana in the Kadjebi District of the Volta region on their return.


Emmanuel Yao Kojovi popularly known as Taller;a Togolese who grew up in Ghana   drowned in the Wawa river of Ahamasu in the Kadjebi District on his return from Togo together with his four surviving colleagues. The five men were alleged to have smuggled coca beans from Ghana to Togo when they met their fears on the flooded Wawa River on their return. According to an eye witness the incident occurred when the wooden boat with the five young men on aboard capsized in the process of saving their motorbikes from submerging.  Four  of them swam to safety but Taller who could not and he still being searched by local divers.
The DCE of the area Hon Jacob Alanbinde who confirmed the incidence said it occurred on Wednesday at exactly 5:30 pm. The DCE said he could not substantiate the allegations that they actually smuggled cocoa beans out of the country although there were pockets of such activities in the area.
