Some disappointed youth of the
National Democratic Congress in the Volta region have resolved to cross carpet to
the opposition New Patriotic Party following what they described as the
government’s failure to better the lives of the citizenry.
The frustrated members of the ruling
NDC have registered their displeasure over what they described as the unbearable
economic conditions Ghanaians are facing and blamed the ruling NDC for the
country’s woes.
Robert Teteyfio Adjase the
leader of the group that call itself ‘’disappointed NDC Youth’’ said Ghanaians can
only enjoy the social interventions by the NPP which they [the NDC members] initially
criticized. He said the ruling NDC outwardly failed to sustain and improve on these laudable
interventions such as the Metro Mass
Transport, the National Health Insurance, School Feeding Project just to
mention a few. This he however said has compelled the group to see the NPP as
the surest bet to bring smiles to the people of the Volta region and the
country as a whole.
‘’I have been following NDC for
close to 25 years championing the course of a better Ghana. The Ghana we
claimed we are trying to better, the Ghana is asleep; deeply asleep nothing is
going nothing is coming. Look at even Volta region that we call the strong hold
of the NDC; no work, no developemt, the youth are just suffering.’’ Robert Teteyfio
Adjase said.
He added ‘’the programs that NPP
brought those days and we were criticizing them are now helping the people. Instead
of sustaining and improving those interventions we are rather killing them’’.
The group has since began a
campaign and mounted a banner hanged at one of the major road intersections in
the town, with the inscription “Disappointed Youth of NDC Crossing Over to NPP”.
They hope to coax other members of the party to join their planned defection. As
determined as they are to amass more party members in pursuit of their goal the
leader categorically stated that NPP has no influence in their action.
