Togbega Tsedze Atakora VII |
The assailants were said to have
escaped into a nearby bush after they shot Lance Coporal William Bedford who
have gone to the bush to urinate.
The paramount chief of the area
Togbega Tsedze Atakora VII who evoked
the curse said the move was meant to compel the assailants to own up as well prevent anyone who might want to twist
the facts surrounding the incidence or give reports based on falsehood. The paramount
chief said they have resorted into curses because his people are wrongfully
accused of masterminding crimes in the camp of the peace keepers. He cited an incidence where shots were fired at Electric Meters in the camp by unknown faces and his people became
the prime suspects. Togbega Tsedze Atakora said although the camp is in the
outskirt of Kpemi a suburb of Alavanyo which is also close to Nkonya, crimes
perpetrated in the area have always been prejudiced against his people.
Lance Coporal Bedford is part of
a team of security personnel deployed in the area to maintain peace following intermittent
communal clashes between the people of Alavanyo and Nkonya.
Though, the motive behind the
attack is not yet known, Police sources said the incident has no link with the
age old communal conflict but believe it may be a targeted attack.
The victim, who is said to be in
critical condition, initially rushed to the Margaret Marquart hospital in Kpando,
had to be referred to the Regional Hospital in Ho.
The Volta Regional Minister,
Helen Ntoso who heard of the incident, rushed to the emergency ward of hospital
on her way from a function in Akatsi to see the Lance Coporal, who was later
transferred to the 37 Military hospitals in Accra Thursday evening.
TogbegaTsedze Atakora VII however
said he is also assisting the police investigate the incident to bring perpetrators
to justice.
