Some communities in the Keta
Municipality that normally suffer from water-borne diseases due to the wet
nature of the land would now be relieved of the challenge they encounter in
visiting health facilities for treatment by and large accessing health care.
Until the construction of the new
Community Health Planning Service (CHPS) compound, the people had to travel 20
to 30km before they could access health care at Keta Municipal Hospital or Sogakope
Hospital. The new facility will serve over 3,500 people from about ten
communities which include, Agortoe,Agbatsivi,Kpordui,Hadota,Salo,Sokutime,Sodzi,Vorvomukope,Aflanto,
And Sukladzi in the Keta Municipality. The intervention was funded by the Japans’
Grant Assistance For Grassroots Human Security Projects(GGHSP) scheme and a
total amount of one hundred and twenty-one thousand, nine hundred and fourteen
US dollar(us$ 121,914),approximately two hundred and forty-two thousand, four
hundred Ghana cedis (GHC 242,400) was injected into the project in Agortoe.
The Japan Ambassador to Ghana, H.E.Mr
Naoto Nikai said the grant assistance scheme which funded this Agortoe project
has a total of two hundred and fifty-one (251) projects in its portfolio
nationwide since its establishment in Ghana in 1989 and currently sixty-one(61)
projects are credited to the health sector alone with a total support of over
four(4) million us dollars.
Inaugurating the facility, the
municipal Director of Health Service, Dr Andrew Ayim, said the new facility
would ease the burden of the people and reduce the difficulties they went
through before they could access quality health care. He called on the people
to patronize it.
The Municipal Chief Executive of
Keta, Mr Sylvester Edan Tornyeavah said since quality health care delivery was
one of the government’s priorities; the assembly would continue to support the
development of health care facilities for the people.
