The seed of gospel planted in the soils of Anfoega has grown
into a big tree with lots of branches proclaiming the good news.
According to an oral testimony gathered by one William Koku
Buatsi and others, it was sometime in
1988 that one Petro Yakoko of Anfoega Kpeta,a carpenter, then staying and
working at Bosso and who upon converting into the Christian faith advised Rev
Miller one of the Basel missionaries to introduce the faith in Anfoega. With the
approval from the chiefs and elders of the Anfoega traditional area, the faith
was introduced and a school was subsequently established in the community.
On Sunday 24th November, a durbar was held to
commemorate the 100 years of its existence. The theme for the celebration was
“I am with you always to the close of age”
The moderator of the
church Rt Rev Francis Amenu was proud to say that over the years of the church’s
existence, lives of the people have improved tremendously. He reminded the
people how initially the church was in the helm of affairs in providing the
health needs, educational needs and other vital needs of the people before the
government took over most of those roles. He further stated that to achieve
development in a holistic manner, it would involve the cooperation between
government and the church. The moderator said God is looking out for selfless
and dedicated leaders who have concerns of their people at heart.
Present at the ceremony were the speaker of Ghana’s
parliament, Rt. Hon. Edward K. Doe Adjaho, the deputy
Volta regional minister, Hon Francis Ganyaglo, MP for North
Dayi constituency, George Loh and the chiefs and people of the anfoega traditional area.
The paramount chief of the area Togbui Tepre Hodo IV
congratulated the church on their centenary celebration but was quick to
admonish the church to step up its game as far as development of the individual
and the society is concerned. He believes the church can open new chapters in
the coming years through a more active and direct participation in the social
and communal activities.
