The vice chancellor of the University
Health and allied sciences said students of the university would be asked to
undergo an eight week community service in the various community and district
hospitals in the region as part of their training in the school. According to
him student in their third semester would be posted to these health posts to
help improve health delivery in the region as well help students familiarize
with the working environment.
This was disclosed when the
deputy minister in charge of tertiary education Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa
yesterday Monday 27th January 2014, paid a working visit to the
university of health and allied sciences in ho. The visit was meant to inspect
progress so far as well as discuss challenges faced by the university. The
university which has a total population of 533 students currently has its
temporal campus close to the Volta regional hospital.
The university currently has four
campuses spread across the region and out of the eight schools they envisage
has five schools running. These include the schools of Medicine, Public Health,
Basic Environmental Sciences, Allied Sciences and School of Allied Sciences.
The delegation was taken through the
massive infrastructure projects works being undertaken on both the temporal
campus and the proposed permanent campus at sokode.
The vice chancellor lamented on
the delay in releasing funds for the smooth running of the school and payment
of the contractors.
The minister admitted the fact
that debasement of funds has been slow but promised to speed up process before
the year ends.
