It is without
gainsaying that need to be educated is very important to Ghanians as it is seen as a
gateway out of poverty or basically a gateway to better living conditions. This
need is heightened an era where there is free access to education and it has
become more affordable. Due to this, most parents do all they can to ensure
that their children gain education.
Although, Ghana takes
much pride in the education of her citizens, there are cramps of indiscipline
among some teachers which would end up leaving a negative impact on the
Ghanaian child. The issue of teachers taking advantage of students sexually is
becoming a social cancer.
Few days ago, the
Accra Metro Education Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has
suspended Zakaria Amu, a teacher at the Mamprobi ‘5’ Junior High School from
teaching.
The 38-year-old
teacher is said to have engaged in sexual relations with one of his pupils, a
16-year-old girl.
School authorities
got to know about the act after the pupil complained of abdominal pains and was
sent to the hospital.
The 16-year-old girl
said she had sex with Zakaria Amu on numerous occasions. She said the teacher
has also assisted her to abort a baby.
There were other
similar stories happening in all corners of the country.
A question one would
ask is; after the suspension, would there be any legal action taken against
such a teacher?
Children are clays
where teachers and parents are to mould them into better beings for the future.
What then happens to the clay whiles the
potter uses it to mould his bed instead of a vessel of honour?
