The Inspector General of Police Mr. Mohammed Ahmed
Alhassan and his entourage was in Ho on Saturday 24th August 2013,
as part of his tour to the various regional commands to confirm the readiness
of his men to ensure peace and order before during and after the declaration of
the Supreme Court verdict.
His first point of call was the Volta regional
headquarters where he inspected a parade of officers of the service. The Volta
regional command lead by the commander ACP Fred
Agyepong-Asare demonstrated to him how operations are carried out in the region
as they maintained law and order.
The visit was crowned by a welcome ceremony held
at the Volta regional police training school. There were display of skills and
ammunitions by the various unit of the command amidst beautiful performance by
the police band. The simulation exercise was heightened by a comprehensive
display of riot control by the rapid deployment force; the last resort in
handling public unrest.
In his speech, the IGP was confident the service
would give off its best when called upon but was quick to caution officers not
to be complacent. He added that crime and public disorder is always dynamic
hence officers need to keep on sharpening their skills to enable them discharge
their duties professionally. He reminded officers of their main duty which is to
enforce law and order thus they should not bridge upon the rights of the
citizens in executing this duty.
Mr. Alhasan also admonished officers to be neutral in attitude, pronouncement and exercise positive demeanor at the discharge of their duties so as to create a positive impression for the service. He concluded by reassuring the public on the police’s readiness to protect them. He sought for the collaboration of the public in ensuring law and order before during and after the verdict
