Local enterprise and skills development (LESDEP) a
private sector initiative program in partnership with the public sector on Wednesday
28th March 28, 2012 graduated its beneficiaries in Ho.
To provide solution to the unemployment issue in Ghana,
the government under the auspices of the ministry of local government and rural
development with collaboration of other agencies has set up LESDEP to train and
equip young men and women with skills to set up their own businesses.
LESDEP registers beneficiaries and train them in
various trade modules such as beauty care,sewing,grass cutter farming,fish
farming,food and catering,babering,mobile phone and computer
repairs,contruction and block making,photography and others.
Its mandate is to train and set up two
thousand(2000) beneficiaries by the end of December in Volta region. So far
more than one thousand five hundred (1500) beneficiaries have been trained in
all the eighteen municipal and districts in the region. Beneficiaries are taken
through hands on practical training and business management tutorials which
they are given set up equipment after successfully passing out.
Present were the deputy regional minister-Hon.
Henry Ametefe, deputy minister for local government and rural development-Hon
Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, Mp for ho central and west-Hon captain Nfojo and Kwesi Begira ,MCE for Ho-Hon. Isaac Kodobisa,
Hon. Michael Adzaho DCE for Adaklu Anyigbe and other dignitaries.
In his speech the regional co coordinator for LESDEP
Mr Emmanuel Darlington Drayi said LESDEP is aimed at improving the live hood of
the people in the region so that the country as a whole would be a better place
to be and challenged graduates to take good use of these chances given them.
Good will messages came from all the dignitaries
to the beneficiaries and Hon.Afriyie Ankrah confirmed the unrelenting efforts being
put up by government to achieve its better Ghana agenda saying an unprecedented
works are being done.
The occasion was crowned by the handing over of
tools and capital to beneficiaries to start up their own business
