The Mp for Ho central, Hon Benjamin Kpodo called for an
integration of yam festivals in the Ho Municipality to promote common interests
and improve yam production in the area.
Most Traditional areas
in the Ho Municipality annually celebrate yam festival almost around the same
time to usher in the new yam. The
isolated celebrations by the various towns according to the Member of
Parliament for Ho central could be crafted in a more holistic manner and
rotated among the traditional areas to better achieve the objectives of the
festivals.
“I think that if we can all gradually come together and
celebrate a big yam festival; rotating it may be from Ho to Nyive, to Matse bringing ourselves together, we would
be having it more grand than it is now” he said.
Hon Benjamin kpodo who acknowledged the strides being made by
Togbe Afede XIV of Asogli Traditional Area in promoting the yam festival, also
appealed to chiefs and elders in the municipality to consider an all-inclusive
festival for a socio-economic and cultural development.
“I would commend Togbe Afede for raising the status of the
Asogli yam festival. Now it is well acclaimed but I think it can still be
better if we can all come together” he mooted.
He explained that
apart from uniting these traditional areas, it would also serve as an avenue
for collective planning and implementation of projects towards development.
Hon Benjamin Kpodo was speaking at the media launch of this
year’s Norvisi Development union (NORDU) festival. Instituted 30 years ago, the
NORDU festival is celebrated by 11 traditional areas comprising of 25 towns
along the eastern corridor of the Ho municipality. Its objectives is to among
other things mobilize funds and resources to initiate development in those
areas.
The celebration is rotated among the towns which include Klave, Shia, Tanyigbe and Lume. The 31st celebrations, would be hosted by the people of Klave under the theme “the provision of quality education; a share responsibility of all stakeholders”.
