A week of activities was designed to introduce first-year
students to Ho Polytechnic.
The program which started today 14th October, 2013
saw more than 1500 students attending. These students will make the Ho
Polytechnic campus a home away from home beginning with the move of the day.
Orientation of students enables school authorities to create
a sense of connection to the polytechnic and the broader community for
first-year students. With the students from all corners of the world it is
essential to give them time to adjust to their new surroundings before they commence
their academic endeavors. Students were taken through series of educations with
regards to how things are being done in the institution.
In his welcome speech, the rector of the polytechnic, Dr JVK
AFUN encouraged the students to be open to new ideas, experiences and
directions. He also admonished them to
embrace each other’s passions for education, policy and practice.
The rector of the polytechnic said an agreement has been
reached among the Ministry of Education, the National Council for Tertiary
Education (NCTE), the National Accreditation Board (NAB), the Conference of
Rectors of Polytechnics (CORP) and the National Board for Professional and
Technician Examinations (NABPTEX) to admit applicants with D7 and E8 who do not
meet the minimum entry requirements.
However, the only condition is that once admitted, the applicants will have to undertake an access course for three months as they study alongside those who meet the requirements. He said further that they will be admitted to attend lectures with their mates, while they pursue the access course. The access course will be supervised by NABPTEX, the regulatory body, and if the students pass the access course they will continue, but if they fail, the polytechnic will have no choice but withdraw them.

In his speech, the dean of student Mr. Ben Honyenugah educated
the new students on the core values that his office implements. He reminded them
of his office preparedness to welcome and assist them in any challenge they
face on the campus. He was quick to encourage them to let discipline be there
hallmark in their stay on the campus.
Aside the goodwill message
from the student representative council president, Master Victus Fiamordzi
Kukubor who encouraged his colleagues to take academic pursuit as a top most priory
there were other goodwill messages received from some management staff of the polytechnic.
The event which is expected to end on Friday 19th October,
2013 had its first day crowned with smiles and joy worn on the faces of the
participants.
