The youth empowerment
synergy(Yes –Ghana), an Accra-based youth development organization in collaboration
with the united nations development programme
has organized a five day young peace
ambassador camp for young people hailing from Alavanyo and Nkonya.
A progamme organized in Ho Is aimed at equipping the young
ones on how to be at peace with each other. The youngsters were granted this
platform to enable them learn about each other, build friendships, understand
one another as well as know how to show compassion to another.
The theme of the camp was “peace begins with young people”
and it is hoped that equipping them would help put a stop to the 83year
conflict between these communities.
An event which begun on 15th October ended
successfully on 19th October and has featured lots of stakeholders
in peace building and youth empowerment. Notable among them were the regional
director social warefare, the regional director of National Youth Authority,
regional scout commissioner and Ag director of volta regional co-ordinating
council
Speaking at the occasion, the chief executive officer of Yes-Ghana
Mr. Emmanuel Edudzie pleaded with government and other stakeholders to help
support their activities towards equipping the youth for leadership roles in
the future. Mrs. Vivian Bruce Tettey the UNDP representative commended Yes-Ghana
for creating a platform where the voices of the youth would be heard. She added
there cannot be development when there is no peace.
Togbega Ampem
Darko(Iii) Chief Of Nkonya Ntunda who is very instrumental in this peace process
led the children to recite, sing and act on peace poems, songs and sketches
respectively.
In a speech delivered on his behave, the Volta regional
minister Hon Ford Camel said it was the right ground for these children to interrupt
with each and learn cultures of these two communities. He assured the people of
government’s support to extend development to the people of Alavanyo-Nkonya traditional
area. He admonished the people to embrace peace.
