This was confirmed by a press statement signed by
the Chief of Staff, John Henry Martey Newman on Tuesday 24th
july2012.
The death occurred at the 37 Military Hospital in
the afternoon while receiving medical attention after being taken ill a few
hours earlier.
A vast
silence reigned over the land; the land itself is desolation, lifeless, without
excitement, so lone and dull that the spirit is not even that of silence. Every
citizen seems to feel the departure of this great son of the land.
Chain of events kept unfolding after the demise of
our president; the swearing in of a new president, tributes being paid by
fellow presidents in the world and citizens.
Every tom dick and harry described this man as a humble and peace loving
man who loves his country dearly.
Without an iota of doubt his unique brand and
legacy were characterized by his personal humility and devotion to the
Christian faith, his unflinching believe in and support for peace, his
unbridled respect for the rule of law and his often self-effacing and tension
deflating sense of humour.
Undeniably his remark “I have always said that I
will be President for all Ghanaians whether they voted for me or not, and without
consideration for which part of the country they come from. It will be my duty
as President to heal wounds and unite our dear nation. I intend to pursue
relentlessly all avenues for entrenching peace and unity in all parts of the
country as I am enjoined by the constitution to do.” among other great sayings
of his has kept us united as a country.
